When I co-founded Spillers, Phoenix's most popular short fiction reading event, in August 2015, I was already itching to launch a podcast. Shortly after Spillers' successful arrival on the Phoenix lit scene I did. I created, hosted, edited, and published Spillers After Show. The premise was simple: interview the immensely talented writers who had read that night at Spillers and get them to talk about anything under the sun--writing, writers, absinth--while capturing the giddy after glow that invariably occurs after live performance. It was loose and fun with a great mix of profundity and hilarity. Spillers After Show quickly became a hit, garnering a place on Phoenix New Times' "10 Metro Phoenix Podcasts You Need to Hear" list before capturing the 2016 Best Podcast award in their always anticipated and much talked about Best of Phoenix issue.
I had a blast doing it and love that each interview is unique--a moment when people and circumstances converged for great conversation to happen.
