I co-founded Spillers with Robert Hoekman Jr in the summer of 2015, and the quarterly event has quickly become Phoenix's premier short fiction storytelling event with standing-room-only crowds packing Crescent Ballroom in downtown Phoenix, Arizona, to hear local writers read original short fiction.
Spillers has featured fiction from contributors to Best American Short Stories, Best American Mystery Stories, Ploughshares, McSweeney's Quarterly, The Norton Anthology of Short Fiction, The McNeese Review, The New York Times, The Mississippi Review, and New England Review, among other publications. Participants are the recipients of numerous prizes and awards, including the Pushcart Prize, Flannery O'Connor Award, Hudson Prize, GQ Book of the Year, the Faulkner-Wisdom Gold Medal, and others.
All the love for Spillers makes me a happy guy, as evidenced by my ugly mug after Spillers No. 4:
