“Brian has a brilliant creative mind – a mind obsessed with its craft.”
— Pete Ylvisaker, Creative Strategist at GoDaddy
I’m nothing if not a versatile writer and creative type.
My latest book is a subversive and hilarious skewering of children’s bedtime stories.
Wild, inventive, absurdist bedtime tales.
Published by Humorist Media, Sleep, Little One is my twisted take on the tradition of children’s bedtime stories. It’s a mashup of Lemony Snicket and Edward Gorey that exposes its readers to a litany of fun, irrational anxieties accompanied by Lucy Mara Budd’s illustrations. Stories include:
* Keeping the Car Wash Kraken at bay
* Dodging Antibiotic-Resistant Cooties strains
* Ignoring Mommy’s Magical Bottle Goblins
* Embracing Daddy’s Fit, New Workout Pal
* And seven (7) more!

Customer reviews of Sleep, Little One:
“An imaginative and entertaining bedtime read that parents will enjoy just as much as kids.”
“This collection brings a fresh approach to the traditional bedtime story. These stories are every bit as enjoyable for adults as they are for the young ones. In fact, these make a great gift for parents (or anyone with a sense of humor). So glad I found this!”
“Incredibly witty and enjoyable for all ages. Little cheeky and well constructed, overall a great time!”
Fringe Elements is an NSFW gut punch of a collection.
Read it in your favorite pair of sweatpants.
I’ve had numerous short stories, essays, and humor pieces grace various magazines and websites. Fringe Elements is a collection of my published work and features original illustrations by Phoenix artist Quinn Murphy.

I launched and hosted Spillers After Show, Phoenix New Times’ Best Podcast of 2016.
Facilitating engaging literary conversations
When you assemble six incredible fiction writers to read their best short story to a Crescent Ballroom crowd, you don’t let them scatter until you’ve probed them with questions both literary and mundane. The resulting podcast, Spillers After Show, was a hit with listeners and won Phoenix New Times’ Best Podcast of 2016:

My humor pieces have graced the websites of McSweeney's Internet Tendency, Points in Case, Splitsider, and Vulture. My short fiction, industry articles, and essays appear in places too numerous to list. I founded Spillers, Phoenix's first short fiction storytelling event, in August 2015 and created, hosted, and produced the spin-off podcast Spillers After Show, Phoenix New Times’ Best Podcast of 2016. I work, write, and live in sunny Uptown Phoenix, Arizona.
